Newsletter January 2018
When I turn back to reflect about the past 12 months, I feel joy and excitement for the Centre of Theology, Philosophy and Media Theory had a successful year in 2017. Despite of all difficulties and our limited possibilities, we managed to organize 10 public events (2 international colloquia, 6 interdisciplinary roundtables with junior scholars and 1 conference panel within the European Academy of Religion Congress); publish 16 texts (for example, in Modern Theology, International Journal of Philosophy and Theology, AUC Theologica, Edinburg University Press); deliver papers at a number of conferences and seminars (among other places in Vienna, Leuven, Bologna, Bonn, Chicago, Notre Dame, Oxford). One of our researchers was granted a prestigious research fellowship and spent one month at the Technical University of Dortmund. Another researcher received the Essay Prize for the best essay on ‘The Future of Metaphysics” awarded by International Journal of Philosophy and Theology. Last but not least, we welcomed a research fellow from the other side of the Atlantic who joined our team for a 6-month fellowship. In sum, many good things happened, and it seems that for the forthcoming year the bar was set high. On the other hand, numbers are not everything. The most important values of our work are quality, collegiality, openness, the courage to open big, thought provocative questions and conduct original, innovative research. I am convinced that these are the reasons why our Centre attracted collaborators and delivered significant results in the past year. I wish we moved forward on this path in 2018.
Dear readers, friends and supporters of the Centre of Theology, Philosophy and Media Theory, I wish you all an inspirational year 2018.
